John 8.21-30
Jesus said that He was going away and the Jews could not find Him. Jesus spoke very plainly and explain what the spiritual situation was. He was from above, they were of this world. They would die them in their sins if they would not believe that he was the Christ. He had much in judgement against them. The fact was they were blinded and they did not understand the relationship between Him and the Father. What about us? Do we see things as they really are? Jesus is the Christ and He has the authority from the Father? He came and died for our sins that if we believe in Him we would have eternal life.
John 8.31-59
The Children of Abraham (v. 31-41): Jesus said (v. 31-32) 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.' We will know the truth IF we obey his commandments THEN the truth will set us free. This is on of the IF..THEN statements. We should not take verses out of context but look closely at small words such as IFs and THENs. He said, in essence, that if they were Abraham's children, they would do the things that Abraham did, they would not want to kill Him.
Jesus was pretty blunt with the Jewish leaders, He called them the children of the devil (v. 42-37) because if you belongs to God you hear what He says. But in this case they wanted to kill Jesus. The devil is the father of lies and a murderer and the Jewish leaders exhibited the characteristic of the devil.
Jesus made the amazing claim about Himself that 'before Abraham was born, I am!' (v. 49.
In his famous book Mere Christianity, Lewis makes this statement, "A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg - or he would be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us."

John 8.1-27
In verse 1-11, there was the incident when the Pharisees brought the woman caught in adultery to Jesus. Accoding to Mosaic law, she was to be stoned to death. They wanted to know what Jesus would do in a situation like this. It was interesting that He wrote on the ground with his finger. The Bible did not say what He wrote. Jesus said to them, let him who is without sin cast the first stone. He then stoop down and wrote again with his finger. Slowly they all disappaered and He said where where those who condemned you. She said that there was none and He said that He did not condemn her either. This was grace in action. He told her to leave her life of sin.
In verse 12-20 Jesus spoke about His testimony in the world. He began by saying that 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follow me will never walk in darkness, but will have the lightof life.' (NIV, verse 12). Jesus is basing the validity of His testimony not on man's authority but on the authority that God sent Him. He based the testimony on two witnesses. The first witness was God the Father and the second was on Humself. Both were reliable witnesses. Jesus and God the Father produce credible witnesess and cannot lie.

John 7.28-53
No one could seize Jesus because his time has not yet come (v. 30). We should know that God is in control of everything that has happened in our lives, nothing will happen to us UNLESS God permits it. The Pharisees had the word of God with the evidence of the coming of the Messiah from the Prophets, but they were blind and did not see who Jesus was. Jesus made a prophecy about Himself that He would go to the One who sent Him, and that they could not find Him, speaking of His death (v.33), and Ascension.
37On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38Whoever believes in me, as[c] the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. Jesus is the One who can quench our deepest spiritual longings, in Him we can be complete.
The Jewish leaders as before was filled with unbelief yet they have all the facts. Let us too be careful with our readings of Scripture. We need the Holy Spirit to reveal to us what God's will for us.

Jesus brothers did not understand much less knew him. They were embarassed by him and mocked him, telling him to go to Judea to perform some miracles for his disciple. It was after the resurrection that they came to a saving knowledge of him and were leaders in the church. Two epistles were written by them. One by James and the other by Jude. Are we embarassed by Jesus. Do we have acquainatnce with Him but we really don't know Him?
Jesus was under opposition by the Jewish leaders and they wanted to kill him. The people admired Jesus but were afraid to speak openly of Him lest they would be excommunicated from the synagogues. The Jewish leaders wondered how Jesus could have taught with such authority and wisdom. They had wanted to kill Him because He healed on the Sabbath. he pointed out to them that they themselves do 'work' in performing circumcision. Sometimes the eight day after a male child is born would fall on the Sabbath and they would have to circumcise the child.
How do you know that Jesus teaching is from God. If we do God's will we will find out that Jesus is from God. They asked if Jesus is the Christ. They were using the Old Testament to see if He was the Messiah. They thought they knew Him but they did not KNOW Him or the Father. He was from Nazareth, this was one of the Prophecies spoken from the Prophets but they did not get it. Do you know of Jesus, the things that He did but do you KNOW Him in a personal relationship? Mark 9.1-29, Commentaries, verse by verse
In this passage, Peter, James and John went with Jesus up a high mountain, there he was transfigured before them. What was the purpose of the Transfiguration? It was to let the disciples there see the glory of Christ. Moses and Elijah appeared before them. Peter said that it was good for them to be there, they wanted to put up three shelters there, on for Jesus, one for Moses and one for Elijah. Why Moses and Elijah? Some commentaries indicated that Moses was the representative of the Old Covenant and Elijah was the appointed restorer of things (Mal 4.5-6). A voice from heaven said this is my Son, whom I love, Listen to him! The cloud is symbolic of the Presence of God to protect and to guide, which we saw many times in Exodus.
What were they talking about? it is hard to say! Jesus told his disciples not ot mention this event until he rose from the dead. The disciples had no understanding what rising from the dead meant. What would you have done if you were Peter, James and John. It was a heavenly experience for them! But beware of heavenly experience because when you come down the mountain (say from a retreat or conference), you have to face reality where they had to deal with the boy who was demon-possessed and on the same chapter, they were arguing among themselves, who was the greatest. I have learnt the hard way in my Christian life not to depend on religious experiences, you cannot depend on emotions to see how close you are to God but you have to depend on the reliability of the Bible and the historicity of Jesus' death and resurrection.
When they came down the mountain, they met the other disiples who tried to drive out an evil spirit out of the boy but could not. Jesus "Everything is possible for him who believes" .Jesus asked the father if he believed. He said to Jesus hoonestly "I believe help my unbelief." Even with the most minute faith, God honored the man prayer and the demon was cast out. What about you do you find at times that you have doubt in your life? You think that God cannot answer prayer. If we come to him just as this father did confessing his unbelief and asked God to answer us with whatever minute, wavering faith we have he will answer our prayer!

Luke 9 with Commentaries, verse by verse
In Luke 9.18-20; Matthew 16.13-16; Mark 8.27-25, Peter confesses Jesus as the Christ. Jesus predicted His death and resurrection (v. 21-22). 23Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. 25What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? 26If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”

Today's Reading From Mark 8
Mark 8 with Commentaries, verse by verse
There was a large crowd listening to him teach, but they had nothing to eat. Jesus told his disciples that he had compassion for the people. They were with him for three days and had nothing to eat. Jesus asked how many loaves of bread was there and they said seven. Jesus performed a miracle by feeding four thousand with seven loaves and a few fish. They even had seven basketful of leftover bread.
In this passage, the disciples only brought one loaf of bread and left the rest of the bread on shore. Jesus warned them to watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod. They did not understand what He was saying to them, they thought He meant that they forgot to bring the bread. Jesus rebuked them for not understanding him. He reminded them of the feeding of the five thousand (Mark 6.32-44, and the feeding of the four thousand (Mark 8.1-13 which happened a few hours before). He told them that they did not see or understand, and their hearts were hardened. In the same way we do not have the spiritual insight or perception of things unless the Holy Spirit reveals it to us.
Jesus healed a blind man from Bethsaida in a unique way. He put spit on the man's eyes, and asked him if he saw anything. The blind man saw people but they looked like trees. He touched his eyes and he was healed. He told him not to go into the village
Jesus asked the disciples the question, "Who do people say I am?", but then he asked the disciples more specifically, "But what about you? Who do you say I am?" Peter said that you are the Christ. In Mat 14.17 Jesus said to Peter that Peter knew this without man's knowledge but with the inspiration from God.
Jesus is a prophet, predited the Fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 and His second coming (Mat 23.37-25).Today He predicts His death and resurrection. Other passages are Mat 16.21-28; Luke 9.22-27; Mark 8.31-9.1. Peter, after mading that remarkable confession, rebuked Jesus! But you see, it was Satan speaking, not Peter! Then Jesus said a challenge to them and us today, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? 37 Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels.” This is law of spiritual paradox. If you want gain your life, you have to lose it. If you gain the whole world, you lose your soul.

Today's Reading From Matthew 16
Matthew 16 with Commentaries, verse by verse
The demand for a sign Matthew 16.1-12; Mark 8.11-21
Even today we look for sign, we don't go by faith and obedience in seeking God.
The yeasr of the Pharisees and Sadducees was their hypocritical teachings (v. 5-12).
Let us be careful not to be hypocritical in the way how we teach others how to live the Christian Life by saying and not living the Life.
Peter's confession of Christ
Matthew 16.13-16; Mark 8.27-29; Luke 9.18-20
In the Matthew passage, by the Holy Spirit, Peter saw and understood who Jesus was. Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One, the Chosen One, the Messiah. That question still applies to us today. "Who do you say that I am?". We can never understand who Jesus Christ is unless the Holy Spirit reveals Him to us.
Jesus predicts His death Matthew 16.21-28; Mark 8.31-9.1; Luke 9.22-27
Jesus is the prophet, he forthtell (proclaims the rruth) and foretell about the future. he spoke of his death. How would you feel in this situation. Peter reacted in a human manner and did not understand what was going on! Yet in that confusion God is in control!
