Today's Reading From John 8.1-27

One Year Chronological New Testament Reading Plan

John 8.1-27, Commentaries, verse by verse

John 8.1-27
In verse 1-11, there was the incident when the Pharisees brought the woman caught in adultery to Jesus. Accoding to Mosaic law, she was to be stoned to death. They wanted to know what Jesus would do in a situation like this. It was interesting that He wrote on the ground with his finger. The Bible did not say what He wrote. Jesus said to them, let him who is without sin cast the first stone. He then stoop down and wrote again with his finger. Slowly they all disappaered and He said where where those who condemned you. She said that there was none and He said that He did not condemn her either. This was grace in action. He told her to leave her life of sin.
In verse 12-20 Jesus spoke about His testimony in the world. He began by saying that 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follow me will never walk in darkness, but will have the lightof life.' (NIV, verse 12). Jesus is basing the validity of His testimony not on man's authority but on the authority that God sent Him. He based the testimony on two witnesses. The first witness was God the Father and the second was on Humself. Both were reliable witnesses. Jesus and God the Father produce credible witnesess and cannot lie.
